F inding exact geographic destinations across India has traditionally presented logistical hurdles, particularly across remote rural belts and dense, unplanned urban colonies that lack standard street names and door numbers. Addressing this gap, the Department of Posts has introduced DIGIPIN (Digital Postal Index Number) , an indigenous digital addressing framework crafted to deliver hyper-local location accuracy. Spearheaded by India Post in collaborative partnership with IIT Hyderabad and ISRO’s National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) , the initiative partitions geographic space into standardized digital coordinates, assigning an exclusive 10-character alphanumeric code to every designated location.
